Do I need any artistic skill or experience?

The layout guide tells you exactly which color goes where. You match the color, pick the piece, press it on. There’s no drawing, no mixing, no guessing. If you can follow a color-coded map, you can build this.
Is it suitable for children?
We recommend this kit for ages 8 and up, with adult supervision and participation.
Younger children can absolutely enjoy the process — pressing the pieces on is satisfying and tactile — but the layout guide requires color matching and attention to detail that works best with an adult guiding the session. Many of our customers build with their kids as a shared project, with the adult handling the layout and the child doing the pressing.
Is it suitable for older adults?
Yes. The process is calm, repetitive, and deeply satisfying — many customers describe it as meditative. The pieces are 10mm×10mm, which requires reasonable fine motor control, but no more than everyday tasks like writing or using a phone.

How Difficult Is It?

The challenge, if there is one, is patience. Larger designs have hundreds of pieces. Some people find this deeply satisfying. Others prefer to work in shorter sessions over several days. Both approaches work fine — your progress stays on the wall exactly where you left it.
What if I make a mistake?
Pieces can be removed and repositioned, especially early in the build before the adhesive has fully set. Peel slowly from one corner and reapply. On most smooth surfaces, early repositioning works well.
Can I do it alone, or do I need help?
Most people build alone. The process is self-contained — the layout guide tells you everything you need to know. That said, building with a partner or family member is a popular choice, especially for larger designs.
How Long Does It Take?
How long will it take to finish?
It depends on the size of the design and how long your sessions are. There’s no right or wrong pace — the kit doesn’t expire, and your progress stays on the wall between sessions.

Do I have to finish it all at once?
Not at all. Stop whenever you like. Come back whenever you’re ready. The pieces on the wall stay exactly where you left them.
What Do I Need to Get Started?
What’s included in the kit?
Everything you need to build the design:
- Self-adhesive glass dot pieces (pre-sorted by color)
- A digital pixel layout guide — delivered to your email as a PDF. Open it on your phone, tablet, or computer and zoom into any section for a pixel-perfect view. No squinting at small print.
- A digital cutting guide — also sent by email. Print it at home if you prefer a physical copy.
Is the layout guide printed or digital?
Digital — and that’s intentional.
A printed guide has a fixed size. A digital guide lets you zoom into any section for a clearer view, keep it open on a second screen while you build, and never worry about it getting damaged or lost. Most customers keep it open on a tablet or phone while they work.
If you prefer a physical copy, you can print the PDF at home at any size you like.
Do I need to grout the tiles?
No. There is no grouting required.
Unlike traditional mosaic or ceramic tile installation, 8bitclear tiles are self-adhesive and press directly onto the wall. The gap between tiles is part of the pixel aesthetic — clean, intentional, and finished-looking without any additional materials or steps.
Do I need to buy anything else?
No additional materials are needed to apply the tiles — they are self-adhesive and press directly onto the wall.
If you choose to cut the panels to adjust the size or shape, you’ll need a pair of scissors or a utility knife and a ruler. These are standard household items.
Does it damage my wall?
On most smooth, hard surfaces, the tiles can be removed carefully without damage. We recommend testing a single tile in an inconspicuous area first, particularly on painted walls, where there is a small risk of paint lifting on older or lower-quality finishes.
